How to Apply and Remove Press-On Nails A lasting finish, and an easy way off
Whether a press-on set lasts the day comes down to application, not the nails themselves. Our six-step method, adhesive tabs vs. nail glue, and how to remove a set without damaging your natural nail.
“My press-ons never last the day” is almost always a story about how they went on, not the tips themselves. The application sequence below is the same one we send with every order — six steps, about ten minutes for all ten nails, and no tools beyond what is already in the box.
Applying your set (6 steps)
- Trim and shape your natural nail. Keep the free edge short and lightly buff any ridges — you do not need to buff hard.
- Wash your hands with soap. Skip this and the adhesive has almost nothing to grip: hand cream and natural skin oil are the single biggest reason a set lifts early.
- Wipe the nail and surrounding skin with rubbing alcohol. Go slightly past the edge of the nail plate, not just the surface.
- Do not compromise on size. However carefully you apply it, a tip that is the wrong width will lift — press it against the nail once more before committing to make sure it still looks right.
- Set the base first, then roll down. Line the tip up with your cuticle line, stopping about 0.5mm short of it (sitting on the cuticle itself causes lifting from that point), then roll the tip downward from base to tip. Placing the tip end first traps air underneath at the base.
- Press firmly for 30 seconds. Use the pad of your finger to press from the centre out toward both edges, working out any trapped air. Once all ten are on, avoid water for about an hour.
That is genuinely the whole method — the difference it makes to how long a set lasts is larger than most people expect.
Adhesive tabs or nail glue?
Every set ships with adhesive tabs included; nail glue is not shipped with international orders because it is flammable and cannot travel by air — pick some up locally if you prefer it.

First time wearing press-ons, or planning to reuse the same set often? Use the tabs. Need it to survive a week away? Nail glue holds longer — apply a rice-grain amount to the centre of the natural nail, roll the tip down from the base, and hold for 30 seconds. Test the fit once before the glue sets, because it cannot be repositioned afterward.
Either way, do not leave a set on indefinitely — a day is typical, a few days at most. Trapped moisture underneath can leave the natural nail discoloured.

Removing without damaging your natural nail
A set that comes off carefully protects your natural nail; one that gets pried off does not.
- Soak in warm water. About five minutes in comfortably warm, soapy water softens the adhesive from underneath.
- Slide the included wood stick gently under one edge at the base of the tip.
- Rock it side to side, easing the tip up rather than lifting it in one motion.
- If it resists, soak again rather than pulling. It should come away with very little force.
Roll off any adhesive residue left on the natural nail with a fingertip, then moisturise with cuticle oil or hand cream — it leaves the nail in better shape for the next time you apply a set. Removing nail glue instead: soak a cotton pad in remover, press it against the tip, wrap in foil for 10–20 minutes, then ease off with the wood stick the same way.
How many times can I wear the same set?
Removed carefully, a gel-crafted set typically holds up for ten wearings or more.
